This area has been inhabited since the most ancient times. Traces of settlements dating back to the 18th century B.C. (Dolmen of Bisceglie), all of the Neolithic age, the Daunian-Hellenistic age and, naturally, the Roman epoch have been discovered. Accentuating the charm of such wealth, is the distribution of these sites, their close ties to the landscape, the imposing nature of the structures and the absolute uniqueness of this immense patrimony.
This is the result of the fact that this area has, in all epochs, had numerous commercial exchanges, a complex transportation network and has been easily approachable by sea. The Pact cities' museums collect many of the findings discovered during the digs, but a visit to the sites will surely leave the visitor breathless at the sight of an unexpected and very aesthetically powerful scene.
